Fear of the unknown can make you wonder about the survival rate for prostate cancer.

When you're diagnosed with prostate cancer all sorts of concerns may be going through your head. Am going to die from this? How long do I have to live?

The bad news is you have cancer. The good news is, if there ever was a cancer to get, prostate cancer is one of the best in terms of survival rates.

Some interesting information on prostate cancer;

- 1 in 6 men (17%), is diagnosed with prostate cancer, after 60.

- 1 in 35 men (3%), will die from prostate cancer.

- The 5 year prostate cancer survival rate is 100%.

- The 10 year survival rate is 92%.

- The 15 year survival rate is 70%.

- Prostate cancer is the 2nd most common cancer (#1 skin cancer).

- It's the 2nd leading cause of death from cancer (#1 lung cancer).

- Prostate cancer accounts for 10% of all cancer deaths in men.

- 200,000 new cases will be diagnosed in the United States, in 2008.

- 2,000,000 American men are living with prostate cancer, in 2008.

- 30,000 American men will die of prostate cancer, in 2008.

The nice to thing to take away from all this is... prostate cancer is not a death sentence. The prostate cancer survival rates are; high (97%), and at late onset (>60 y/o)... which is very encouraging.
