Stage 2 Colon Cancer
Stage 2 colon cancer is at the beginning phase of the disease. It is not as deadly as stage 3, but it can quickly develop if it is not immediately treated. The health problems surrounding colon cancer stage 2 can increase considerably if it is not caught in time, so screening and early detection are very important. Colon Cancer Stages 2A and 2BThe less advanced form of this stage is called 2A, while the more advanced is called 2B.When the illness is in stage 2A, it has gone through some layers of muscle and is now overtaking tissue around the colon and possibly the rectum. When it reaches stage 2B, it has gone through the colon and can be found in other organs in the area. The tissue surrounding the abdomen called the peritoneum can also be impacted during the second stage. Colon Cancer CausesThere is no known direct cause for colon cancer, although a fatty diet and a lack of exercise have been linked. The treatment for stage 2 colon cancer is usually surgery, as part of the colon must be removed. If the cancer has spread, a more serious operation will be required, so it is best if the illness is caught early. Colon Cancer ResectionAdditionally, the doctor may recommend chemotherapy or radiation for the colon cancer stage 2 patient, as this will decrease the chance of it returning later on.Once a portion of the colon has been removed, the doctor may take the healthy sections and form a new colon. This is, however, highly dependent on how much of the colon is removed during the procedure. Stage 2 Survival RatesStage 2 colon cancer survival is dependent on a few different things, although studies have shown 90% of people who are detected in this stage will survive. This, of course, is dependent on a few different factors, such as where the cancer is found in the colon, as certain areas make the illness easier to detect.More developed countries have better screening procedures for colon cancer stage 2, and therefore have a higher survival rate than less developed countries. Overall, your chance of survival is pretty good if the cancer is caught at this stage. With more advanced stages your chances become progressively worse. Surviving colon cancer is highly dependent on when the disease is found by your doctor. It is wise to get yourself checked if you feel something is not right with your bowels.
Screening devices and treatment are becoming more advanced with time, so while you never want to end up with cancer, there has never been a better time to fight it.
