Reversing Vasectomy to Renew Fertility

Let me guess... you're reversing vasectomy because originally you and your ex-wife/girlfriend didn't want more kids.

You divorced... are now with a new woman who wants kids, and the vasectomy has to be reversed.

It's a common situation.

You may also have heard about vasectomy as a cause of low testosterone. Reversing vasectomy may be a good idea for this reason alone.

The good news is... it's definitely possible. There's a 30-76% chance the procedure is successful, depending on the length of time after the initial vasectomy, and which type of procedure is deemed necessary.

Reverse Vasectomy and Fertility Success Rates Over Time

- Under 3 years, 76%

- 3-8 years, 53%

- 9-14 years, 44%

- > 15 years, 30%

Price Range for Vasectomies

Unfortunately the price range is a little more expensive. It may have cost around $350-$1000 when you first got yourself snipped, but it's around $5,000-$13,000, to get it reversed!

Vasovasostomy vs Vasoepididymostomy

The vasovasostomy is the first line surgical treatment, where your doctor sews both ends of your cut tubes together. The success rate is usually higher, and generally costs a little less.

A vasoepididymostomy would be performed when you have too much scar tissue or a blockage. One of your tubes is sewn to a duct surrounding your testicles. The success rate is a little lower, and a bit pricier.

The time after the initial vasectomy, the skill of your doctor, and/or any other complications, may determine which procedure your doctor may recommend.

Reverse Vasectomy vs In Vitro Fertilization

Instead of a vasectomy reversal, some couples opt for the woman getting in vitro fertilization (IVF). Many times the decision is made under the false assumption that a vasectomy reversal can't be done!

The costs are significantly lower for a vasectomy reversed ($5,000-$13,000), compared to in vitro fertilization ($15,000-$20,000). It's around $7,000-$10,000 in savings!

Comparing the success rates... it also favors the reverse vasectomy at 30-76%, while the IVF only succeeds 30-35% of the time. It makes the decision a little easier.
