Male Depression SymptomsMale depression symptoms are often difficult to diagnose due to their less expressiveness of emotions and adversity as compared to women. You’re generally not going to share when you’ve been defeated and beat down, and get help when you need it most. Most Common Symptoms- Rage.- Irritability. - Violence. - Loss of libido or sex drive. - Difficulty concentrating. - Fatigue. - Insomnia. - Headaches, digestion, or general pain problems. - Suspiciousness. - Guarded behaviour. - Guilt. - Isolation from friends and family. - Lowered motivation for work and leisure activities. - Engagement in risky behaviors (reckless driving and extramarital sex). - Alcohol abuse and other recreational drugs. - Excessive use of pain killers and sleeping pills. - Suicidal thoughts. How the Symptoms of Male Depression Differs from WomenConversely women tend to have more; sadness, crying spells, anxiety, shyness, excessive sleeping, and using food and friends as coping mechanisms. It can be harder to identify the depression symptoms in men as your feelings may not be as expressive as a woman’s. It’s generally easier to recognize the physical symptoms of depression like fatigue, loss of sex drive, and pain. Your lack of sex drive may be caused by the high amount of stress you may be experiencing. High stress generally coincides with high cortisol, and a poor testosterone/cortisol ratio can impact your ability to cope with stressful situations.
Making sure your testosterone levels are on par can help act as a buffering agent during those stressful times. Alternatively taking an antidepressant that is testosterone friendly may also help as part of your overall treatment plan.
