Home Remedy Hair Loss

Home remedy hair loss options may be desirable if you don't want to resort to drugs or surgery to prevent baldness.

They can help prevent and in some cases even re-grow hair.

Making Hair Healthier

If your hair loss is due to environmental damage or stress, natural options may certainly serve you well.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has been shown to help dry and brittle hair. It's been long touted for its health benefits, and is rapidly gaining acceptance in the western world.

In particular, virgin coconut oil contains essential fatty acids which help build healthy hair. It can be taken internally (up to three tablespoons a day) to help restore luster and strength to skin and hair.

You can also apply coconut oil externally on to your hair. A tablespoon of oil should be massaged on to damp hair, wrapped with a towel, and soaked for an hour. Wash with a mild shampoo and rinse. It should be noted, fractionated coconut oil should not be taken internally and does not contain the same health benefits as virgin coconut oil.

Olive Oil

Olive oil provides benefits to both skin and hair when taken both internally or externally. As with coconut oil, apply to damp clean hair, wrapped in a towel, and let sit for an hour before shampooing.

To enjoy olive oil as part of your diet, take a tablespoon of olive oil a day. Simply dip some whole wheat bread into a tablespoon of olive oil and enjoy.

Rosemary Oil

Rosemary oil should NOT be ingested internally, because it can be poisonous. However, a few drops can be massaged on to your scalp after shampooing. It helps bring blood to the surface of the scalp, increasing circulation and encouraging re-growth even in areas where hair follicles have been dormant.

Saw Palmetto

Saw palmetto is an herb that can be taken internally to block the production of DHT (dihydrotestosterone). DHT is the substance that results in the most common form of baldness, androgenic alopecia.

It's responsible for causing hair follicles to go dormant, resulting in continued baldness if not kept in check. It has been shown to be an effective home remedy hair loss solution in cases where medications like Rogaine, Propecia and Avodart are indicated.

Saw palmetto may be contraindicated in some cases. It's best to check with your doctor to keep safety in mind.

A Final Note about Home Remedies Hair Loss

Although home remedies hair loss options may help re-grow hair when balding has occurred, it should be continually used for optimal results. Home remedies can even be more effective than conventional medicinal treatment. They are certainly less expensive, and have other health benefits besides simply reversing baldness.
