Home Remedies for Gout

Home remedies for gout will aid the swelling, pain, and stiffness associated with the condition.

The joint areas most affected are the elbows, wrists, hands, knees and feet.

The big toe is especially vulnerable to gout.

Gout manifests itself when excessive uric acid accumulates in the body.

Uric acid is made from purines; a substance found mostly in meat and some vegetables.

Although uric acid is normally found in the body, too much can cause problems.

An excess of uric acid may form crystals making your joints stiff and swollen. Most gout flare-ups occur in the late evening or night time.

Symptoms of Gout

Swelling: Joints become puffy and swollen during a gout attack. The swelling makes the joints stiff and difficult to move.

The affected joint area is generally red and tender to touch and during movement. There is also pressure felt in the joint area.

Pain: Excruciating pain is the most notable symptom in gout sufferers. The inflamed area fills with crystal deposits. The pain may be felt for few a days to a week or longer.

Males have a higher incidence of developing gout than women. Some of the contributing factors towards getting gout are; excessive weight, high alcohol consumption, lack of exercise and/or certain medical conditions, such as hypertension or kidney problems.

Home Remedies for Gout

Weight Control: Excess weight/fat may increase your odds of developing gout. Like every disease state, your whole system works better when your weight is at an optimal level.

Exercise: Ideally exercise for 30 minutes approximately 3 to 4 times per week. The movement of your joints will help keep them from becoming stiff.

Diet: Be sure to limit alcohol, especially beer to one or two drinks a day. Cut back on red meats, chicken and fish to a couple times per week at most. Increasing your grain, vegetable and fruit intake are good choices to replace the lost calories from not eating meat.

Cherries as a Home Remedy for Gout

Cherries: They decrease the crystal deposits most associated with gout. You should eat approximately fifteen cherries per day for maximum effectiveness. For more practical reasons, you may supplement your diet with cherry juice instead.

Lemons: It should be freshly squeezed into a glass of water. Lemon acts as a dissolvent of gout deposits. Drinking lemon water three times daily will aide in diminishing the uric acid crystals around your joints.

Apples: An apple a day also helps rid your body of crystal deposits.

Bananas: Bananas are rich in potassium and phosphorus. These two minerals interact with uric acid.

By practicing these few simple home remedies for gout your condition should improve favorably. If more help is needed to manage your gout symptoms seek advice from a qualified physician.
