Important Facts on Gynecomastia SurgeryThe only permanent way to get rid of long standing excess breast tissue is through gynecomastia surgery. No pills, supplements, or exercise programs can remove the breast tissue once it’s formed, since it’s the mammary gland that is enlarged and not fat. Some of the treatments border on the ridiculous. Don’t be swayed by the internet scams! The gland itself can not shrink and therefore needs a more invasive treatment.
Gynecomastia Surgery vs. LiposuctionSome important distinctions between gynecomastia (gyno, man boobs, bitch tits) and excess chest fat are; - Gynecomastia is caused by the increased size of the mammary gland. - Excess chest fat surrounds the mammary gland area. Fat cells can shrink whereas gland tissue can not! However, if you have excess fat in your chest area it can still be removed by a skilled plastic surgeon. Liposuction of the chest area is an easier procedure than gyno surgery due to the absence of having to cut through gland tissue and the surrounding nerves.
Gynecomastia StagesDepending on the severity and size of your gynecomastia, it has been broken down in to stages.
- The chest area sticks out slightly.
Stage 2
- The chest area size is more pronounced with fat surrounding the nipple or areola.
Stage 3
- Chest appears to look more like a women’s breasts in shape and feel.
Gyno Surgery ProcedureYour best bet is to find a skilled plastic surgeon that has extensive experience with treating gynecomastia. Surgery is both an art and science due to the specific amounts of tissue that need to be removed while maintaining an aesthetic appeal. A surgeon that can leave minimal scarring is high valued especially for people that may depend on their body for sport and modeling (bodybuilding/fitness lifestyle). A small incision is generally made on the bottom side of the nipple and the fat and/or mammary gland tissue is removed through the incision.
Depending on the severity and stage of your gynecomastia, you should be able to return to work within 2-8 days, and resume exercise after 2-6 weeks.
