Gynecomastia Cure

Every guy that has searched for a gynecomastia cure can relate to the embarrassing, distressing and confidence deflating condition known as man boobs.

Gynecomastia is a medical condition where the male mammary glands enlarge, resembling a woman's breast.

The condition is often associated with changes in hormonal levels and may strike newborn babies, teenage boys, and adult males.

To cure gynecomastia, men need to understand the causes behind the condition to determine the best treatment for their individual needs.

Understanding Gynecomastia

When males develop gynecomastia, their mammary glands enlarge due to excessive growth of glandular tissue. The condition may start out as a small lump under the nipple.

The mammary glands swell up leaving men with breasts resembling those of a woman. Symptoms include; breast tenderness, and itchy and sore nipples.

Gynecomastia should not be confused with pseudogynecomastia; a condition where men develop the appearance of breasts due to excess fatty tissue in the chest. Pseudogynecomastia is usually found in overweight or obese men.

Since it is not caused by excess fat, diet and exercise is not a cure.

Causes of Gynaecomastia

Gynecomastia may occur in one or both breasts. It is caused by an excess of the hormones estrogen and/or prolactin.

This can occur from taking steroids (testosterone analogs) or using drugs such as antibiotics or heart medications. Alcohol and marijuana are also potential causes.

The condition can also be the result of natural hormonal fluctuations or certain health conditions such as tumors or kidney failure. For some men, a gynecomastia cure occurs naturally and the condition may go away within a year or two.

However, often the condition lingers; becoming a source of ridicule, affecting personal relationships with women and even their careers. After several years, the breasts will harden and men will need to cure gynecomastia for relief.

Aromatase and Prolactin Inhibitors

Aromatase inhibitors are anti-estrogen medications used primarily to treat breast cancer in women. However they have also been used off-label as a gynecomastia cure.

They have been shown to have some effect on early stage gynecomastia cases because they stop the production of estrogen. This allows the mammary gland to deflate back to its normal size.

Letrozole (Femara) is one such aromatase inhibitor which has been prescribed to cure gynecomastia.

Prolactin inhibitors like Cabergoline (Cabaser, Dostinex) and Pramipexole (Mirapex) are also used similarly to aromatase inhibitors. Prolactin is a hormone that targets the mammary glands. Excess amounts of this hormone may cause male breast enlargement and lactation (breast milk). It may also cause impotence, loss of libido, and reduce sperm production.

Cure Gynecomastia with Surgery

Treatment wise, surgery is considered the most effective method of providing a gynecomastia cure. Once any underlying health conditions and medications have been ruled out as the cause of the condition, a surgeon can perform an operation to cure gynecomastia once and for all.

There are two main surgical options to choose from, a liposuction or a mastectomy. Liposuction removes breast fat so it will improve the cosmetic appearance of the breast.

Mastectomy is the preferred method for many men since it removes all glandular tissue. This makes it impossible for the condition to reoccur even if excess estrogen and prolactin are present.

Because the surgery is done using small incisions, it also has a shorter recovery time. Look for a surgeon with a record of performing gynecomastia surgeries. This will ensure you have a surgeon qualified in handling all types of gynecomastia.
