Diet for Gout Patients

A diet for gout patients will most likely be prescribed by your doctor (if he is a good one) when first diagnosed, to help limit future flare ups.

Your typical diet should be one that is low in meat and alcohol.

Dark meats and beer in particular should be avoided due to them being rich in a substance called purines.

Purines get metabolized by your body in to uric acid… and uric acid is what causes the the pain and symptoms of gout!

Therefore, as the theory goes… if you limit the amount of purines in your diet, less uric acid is produced, resulting in less pain and suffering, and less gouty arthritis!

So what are the main offenders you may be asking? Here's a list of foods to follow on a typical diet for gout patients.
