The dangers of steroids are an easy sell with sensationalistic journalism taking the reins.

So are there any negative effects of steroids? A resounding YES! But, when done intelligently they can either be minimized or outright removed.

Steroids and Cardiovascular Disease

Strokes and heart attacks can be caused by both low and extremely high testosterone. In the middle range testosterone is protective of cardiovascular health. Men with low testosterone levels are known to be at higher risk of heart attacks.

High estrogen in particular which may lead to a greater risk of stroke. This is why women on the birth control pill have higher incidences of strokes. The higher estrogen increases clotting rates.

Estrogen increasing steroids like testosterone and Dianabol may increase your risk of stroke if estrogen is not controlled. Although it can be decreased rather easily with the use of estrogen decreasing drugs like Aromasin and Arimidex. Therefore the side effect of strokes should not be of concern if you are taking steroids responsibly.

Steroids Altering Cholesterol Values

Certain steroid may decrease HDL "the healthier cholesterol" leading to a skewed HDH/LDL ratio. Oral steroids tend to cause this problem inparticular. If you are cycling with orals for short periods of time i.e. 6 weeks, this minor blip in your cholesterol levels should not be a concern over the long run.

Steroid induced Depression

Depression is one of the bad side effects of steroids you definitely don't want. This is probably the most dangerous side effect of all but can be easily remedied with smart planning.

Generally anabolic steroids like testosterone and Dianabol inparticular will decrease depression tremendously and are very effective antidepressants.

However, once you discontinue steroids your natural testosterone levels will be lower due to the negative feedback loop.
